    CWC LA has a Regional Support Office that supports all CWC LA schools. We work with our network partners at Citizens of the World Charter Schools, linking the schools in Los Angeles to CWC schools in other parts of the country.

    Position Description

    CWC Mar Vista is seeking two experienced physical education teachers to lead classes for our growing school and student body.


    The Physical Education Teacher’s responsibilities include:

    • Teaching all assigned classes, including knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms, dance and team sports, and other learning activities.
    • Coaching assigned sports, which are anticipated to be: boys and girls basketball, flag football, soccer, track and field.
    • Instructing students in citizenship, positive sporting behavior, and basic subject matter related to physical education
    • Analyzing, demonstrating, and explaining basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
    • Providing individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible, while offering alternatives during classes to accommodate different levels of fitness.
    • Staying up to date in innovative teaching strategies, models, and techniques
    • Working collaboratively with department, division, and center directors


    The ideal candidate will have: 

    • A Bachelor’s degree/Certification in related field preferred.
    • Two (2) or more years of experience teaching physical education.
    • Successful completion of CBEST exam
    • Passion for social emotional learning and physical education
    • Ability to effectively supervise both small and large groups of children
    • An exhibited ability to work with children in a caring and respectful manner in order to create a joyful, caring environment where teaching time always includes community building, conflict resolution skill-building, and empowering students to be peacemakers and agents for positive social change



    The candidate must have:

    • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a can-do attitude 
    • Personal investment in creating a classroom in which social emotional learning is the foundation of the culture
    • Belief and willingness to ensure that all students can learn and achieve at high levels
    • Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing, and ability to effectively use those skills with a diverse audience.
    • Experience working with diverse populations, including English language learners and students with special needs
    • Excitement about learning and implementing new teaching methods and effective practices that are aligned to the CWC model and positively impact student
    • Knowledge of computer and internet based programs to maintain frequent communication and engagement with students’ families, colleagues, and other school stakeholder
    • Strong motivational and organizational skills.
    • Basic proficiency with a range of technology such as Microsoft word, Excel, Google suite, etc.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with others in planning a well-balanced physical education program
